One of the things I tend to worry about the most is the future.
The future can be scary – you never know what will happen and there are endless things that could occur. Most of us have a plan for the future or an idea of what we want it to be like. For example, maybe you want to go to college or get married or have a family. Maybe you want to get straight A’s in school or travel the world.
One of the biggest changes in my life came when I learned to trust God’s plan over my plan. How did I do this? I learned to trust in God simply by reading Scripture and reading the Word.
For those of you who may stress over your future as much as I used to, I wanted to put together some of the most eye-opening Bible verses that changed my life!

Life-changing verses
1. Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I wanted to start the list off with one of my personal favorite verses. Whenever I get nervous about something in my future, I think of this verse and find peace in it.
For the full context, history, and background information regarding this verse, I recommend reading this article.
In a short summary, Jeremiah spoke these words to the Jews who were experiencing extreme hardships while living under the control of their enemies and while being exiled. The Jews were under the impression that they would receive an immediate rescue from their horrible situation due to words that Hananiah told the people; however, this was a lie because Hananiah was a false prophet.
Although the Jews were expecting that response from God, instead of just providing an instant escape from the difficult situation, God promised that the people would end up prospering in the current situation.
Life application
When reviewing the context of this verse, the thing that sticks out to me is that God didn’t take away the difficult situation; instead, He helped them through it.
I have recently started looking at life’s challenges as an opportunity to show reliance and trust in God, which helps me to get closer to Him and seek Him more. This verse is a constant reminder to me to put my full trust and reliance in God and that He will guide me throughout the deepest waters.
Here’s a reminder: life is filled with obstacles. However, this verse shows me that if you put your trust in God, He will not only be by your side to help you conquer these obstacles, but He will help you to thrive from them.

The verse begins with “For I know the plans I have for you,” which just reaffirms that God is omniscient, which means all-knowing, and that His plans for you are set.
One of the most stressful things for me was getting good grades in school because I was so worried that if I got a bad grade I wouldn’t be successful later in life or I wouldn’t get into college. However, as soon as I remembered that God knows the plans He has for me, plans that are set, and plans that are meant for me and planned our by the omniscient Creator, I realized that no matter what happened, nothing would stop me from reaching or living out the plan that God has for me.
This allowed me to take a step back and not worry, but TRUST. Ever since, I have gone into each day knowing that whatever happened would not take away from the future that God has waiting for me.

2. Proverbs 19:21
Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
I talk about this verse a lot in my post God’s Plan Vs. Our Plan.
This verse is a constant reminder to me that no matter what my plans are, God’s plans for me will always be the ones that prevail.
Once again, this verse is showing the importance of trusting the Lord. He has created all of our plans for us, now it is just up to us to trust Him, the omniscient Creator, with all our heart.
This verse also has another message: Don’t stress over designing your future. Everything will work out the way God intends it to.
Your future is in God’s hands! So don’t stress too much about it!

3. Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
I think that this quote pretty much sums up all that I’ve talked about between the two previous verses!
Once again, it touches upon trust and the importance of trusting God.
Just as Proverbs 19:21 mentions, trust in God’s plan because it is HIS plan that prevails. This verse mentions the same thing as it says lean not on your own understanding.
Why should we not lean on our own understanding? As said previously, God is omniscient, meaning all-knowing.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit.
Psalm 147:5
So:
- God knows what is best for you.
- God knows what your future holds.
- God knows more things than you can comprehend.
Don’t stress over your future; instead, trust in God and in His plan for you because He knows what is best!

4. Psalm 32:8
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.
Isn’t this just the most comforting verse?! If you would like to read all of Psalm 32, click here!
Here’s another reason you should not worry about your future: God will be by your side every step of the way.
In this verse, it says I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, meaning that God will guide you and will not let you go the wrong way if you focus on Him.
If God, the all-knowing and loving God, instructs you on the way you should go…you can’t go wrong!
It’s almost like having a tour guide on a trip who is showing you the route and will never abandon you and loves you endlessly.
God even says He will counsel, or guide, you with His loving eye on you. This means, like said above, He will keep watch over you and never abandon you!
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
Deuteronomy 31:8

5. Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
I love this verse because it is just another reminder that God’s plans are greater than my own.
Even though I’ve been guilty of trying to prepare my future the way I think I want it, God knows what is even better for me. And this is the same for you!
Remember, God is greater than EVERYTHING.
That means His ways are better than your ways. His thoughts are higher than your thoughts. He KNOWS what is best for you.

In conclusion…
I hope if you are ever finding yourself worked up over the future that you can use these verses to reset and calm your mind. God is so good! We may not always understand WHY things are happening, but He does. God knows absolutely everything and so much more than we could ever know or comprehend.
I hope that this post and these verses helped you as much as they helped me. By leaning more on God and trusting Him with my future, my entire life has changed. I have gone from someone who would get nervous over pretty much everything to happily living while trusting God in everything that I do!
